Private tours of the water tower can be provided by appointment, at the cost of £35 per group of 8 people (minimum) and last up to one hour. You don’t need to bring 8 people, however this is the minimum charge due to our operating costs.
The tour starts with a brief history of the tower and a walk around the ground floor, then we visit each of the 5 floors in turn which is accessed using the spiral staircase and involves climbing around 22 steps between each floor, or 140 steps in total.
You can take as many photos and videos as you like and although currently most of the windows are currently boarded up, there is an opportunity to look out of some of the fourth floor windows to enjoy the great views.
People have asked if they can do a livestream from their phone to their family and friends (who have been unable to make the tour), so we’ve added free fast 10Gbps WiFi to each floor for this purpose.
Unfortunately there is no disabled or lift access, and being a Grade 2 listed building we’d not be allowed to add one, however we can always try to accommodate any reasonable requests.
Note: From time to time, film companies may be filming on certain floors as part of a drama series, so depending on the time and date of your booking, full access to every floor may not be available, but we can advise on this at the time of your booking.
Currently the tower is not heated and doesn’t have any toilet facilities, so it’s advisable to come prepared.
